Weekend Re-Cap: October 18-20th

Whew! What an awesome, busy, educational and happy weekend we had.

On Saturday we attended the TED X SMU conference in Dallas. I'll post a full review once the videos are up, but it's safe to say that we'll be going back next year. And the next year. And the next year. And I would recommend it to anyone.

While lunch was provided at TED X SMU it was a boxed wrap. and I'm kind of picky. And vegetarian. So we trotted across the street to Klyde Warren Park to hit up the food trucks along with most of Dallas. Can you believe the success of Klyde Warren Park? It's quickly become the jewel of Dallas. We shared the tofu rice bowl from Nammi and it was heaven- firm, flavorful and slightly crispy. Just how I like tofu.

Saturday also provided me a great chance to break in my new Keds. Yep, you heard that right. They're precious and comfy, which leads to the question 'why I haven't I owned a pair of these as an adult??!!!'. I don't know, but I'll tell you I had to resist the urge to wear them again today. New favorite.

On Saturday night I attended Texas Ballet Theater's production of Romeo and Juliet. I've never won anything in my life and I actually won 2 Orchestra level tickets for answering a question correctly on Facebook about the ballet. I can't say that Romeo and Juliet is my favorite ballet, but it was danced beautifully and really made me look forward to Swan Lake (which is my favorite).

On Sunday we spent our customary Sunday morning in bed with the newspaper and a taquito. I know it's sort of a Southern thing to go to church on Sundays and have brunch with your family, but this is our little tradition and it's one that I adore.

After we were done lounging I headed to Avoca coffee to get a little bit of work done. I'm a firm believer in making questionable food choices on the weekends so I had both a Mexican Coke and Chocolate Nutella Cake from Stir Crazy. It was worth it :0)

Hope you had a great weekend!!!

2013 Emmy Red Carpet

Woohoo! Ya'll know I love a good red carpet. Here are my favorites from the 2013 Emmy Red Carpet:

Jessica Paré
Jessica Pare in Oscar de la Renta

Michelle Dockery

Michelle Dockery in Prada- Would you look at that back!!!!

Kaley Cuoco
Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang
I'm not usually a Vera fan but this dress feels so delicate which is a huge feat with the dark color.

Shaun Robinson
Shaun Robinson
Wowzas, this is a gorgeous gown- edgy without being trashy

Laura Dern
Laura Dern in Naeem Khan
That lace is stunning and the color is perfect for her.

And the winner of the night is....

Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel
Carrie Brownstein

I have no idea who the designer is but this dress looks so fresh and chic. In a sea of poof she somehow made me stop and appreciate a fabulous cut and simple pattern. Bravo.

The Weekly Beehive

Happy Sunday! Here's what we've been up to:

A few weeks ago my Honda CRV was hit causing some pretty good damage. While she's being fixed, Jason arranged for me to drive my dream car, the Volvo XC60. Hellooooo lovah. Maybe one day.

On Saturday we attended the DFW Humane Society's Black Collar Gala. Um, we were a little overdressed, but had fun supporting a cause we love.

So my eyesight is terrible and I've got to get a new pair of Specs. These Oliver Peoples are kind of a dream, but I'm also giving glasses from Rivet and Sway a shot. I love that you can try 3 pairs at home!

How was your week?

The Weekly Beehive

Happy Sunday! Here's what's buzzing this week:

We went to 6 Flags for my hub's annual Family Company Picnic along with our friends family. Don't we all look related???? And raise your hand if you're too old to ride roller coasters anymore.

I recently ran across this story about rowing being the next hot exercise. Anybody else love to row? I find it relaxing.

I ordered my first Mosaic book via my Iphone this week and it's SO cute. It was so easy and reasonably priced that I'm looking forward to ordering a new one each quarter.

Austenland (2013) Poster

I finally got to see Austenland at the Magnolia this weekend. HOLY HELL it was FUNNNNNNY. If you love Jane Austen and unabashed camp you'll love it. This has been hands down my favorite Austen spoof.

WHY doesn't this live in my closet? If I'm not mistaken this was part of Eduardo Calvo's collection for SuPima.... yep, like the Cotton Lobby. They held a brilliant design contest for NYFW and the pieces are to die for.

How was your weekend?

The Beehive: September 2nd

Happy Labor Day! Why Labor Day?

Gumbo Brick

We watched an old Shark Tank featuring Mee-Ma's Louisiana Gumbo Brick. GET IN MY BELLY NOW!!!

The Butler was wonderful and very well directed. It definitely made me want to pick up a few more history based books this fall.

I totally bought a monogrammed baseball cap and I lurve it.

I'm going through some ballet withdrawals. I need to find a performance stat.

Have a great week world!

The weekly beehive

receipt
The hubs and I were just laughing about how ridiculously long CVS receipts are when we saw this article. Why do you hate trees CVS?

I have a love for old Fonts/Type, so this tumbler makes me so so happy

We finally saw Book of Mormon last night any HOLY MOLY it was hilarious. Honestly I was laughing so hard there were tears.

I'm not sure who she is, but her dress at last nights MTV VMA's was impeccable. I could live in this.

Speaking of the VMA's, do we think Miley is going through an Xtina moment? Because really #ohMiley. Not even putting that filth on my blog.

Have a wonderful week!

Because it's Tuesday........

And I'm learning that sometimes it doesn't matter if you have the right information or the best strategy because some clients just want a dog and pony show.
And that makes me feel a little like a can-can girl: mostly fluff, lots of jazz hands and some fast shimmying.

Nobody ever said being a family lawyer was easy.

The weekly beehive

Ever thought about doing a citywide scavenger hunt? This one is coming September 22nd.

My law school was purchased by Texas A&M University this week. It's been an interesting transition and as an alumni I'm anxious to see what this means for our legal community.

Happy Sunday!
