Plano Children's Theater production of Jeckyll and Hyde the musical

The big move

Today is the big move from Dallas back to Fort Worth. For those of you out of the loop, this means my daily commute will drop from about 3 hours to 15 minutes!!!! I'm happier than a boxer on a trampoline. 

I'll be back to blogging Tuesday once I'm settled in. Until then have a FAB Memorial Day weekend!

And I found out the best news today- I'm officially being transferred to the Fort Worth office! My 3ish hour commute will be a 15 minutes commute in T minus 3 days! Hallelujah!!!!

Honest time....

is kinda like circle time but for adults. If I'm being honest life has been stressful lately. Work is terrible isn't going so great and it's just led to a whole heck of a lot of fretting. So to refocus I thought I'd use this space to say what I'm thankful for lately:

 

Extra large patios for summer fun with friends and family.

For my office smelling beautiful.

For my little bitty garden that is often 'investigated' by the biggest jack rabbit you will ever see (he often masquerades as a 100+ lb great pyr).

For occasionally waking up to scenes like this- Carter's people left out a corn cob!!

For finding potential dates for my friend Sarah. That my friends is a lot of gold chain.

For the great gods of coffee.

That this angel wasn't banged up too badly during her killer slide at the final 4 softball game.

For my rock. And the other one too that tells the world I'm his.

Fresh Art Friday: Thomas Schutte

Thomas Schutte is a German born Contemporary artist. He studied art at Kunstakademie Dusseldorf from 1973-1981 and remains there today. Schutte was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Artist in the 2005 Venice Biennial. His work is represented at the Tate Modern, MoMa and the Art Institute of Chicago. 

Selbstportrat (Self-portrait), 1975

Unlike many artists, Schutte works in a wide variety of mediums such as sculpture, prints, drawing and watercolors totally resisting the art world's desire to categorize an artist. As we'll see below, his pieces often feel like familiar forms of expression, such as figurative sculpture or memorial pieces, but include some disturbing alteration (cite).

The work I wanted to explore with you today is entitled 'United Enemies' and is displayed in Central Park in conjunction with the Public Art Fund. From what I can tell online, the piece is composed of 2 large bronze sculptures of 2 people bound by rope together. In talking about these pieces, Schutte said that the writhing figures were inspired by European politicians in 1990's and in particular the peaceful revolution in Italy. 

Despite being based on a particular time, Schutte believes that in seeing the pieces 'Everybody should get something out of it, not matter what background he or she has who looks it it" (cite). I don't find this surprising as his work often explores the human condition, offering a critical perspective on social, cultural and political issues (cite).

The Met Gala

I finally got around to viewing red carpet photos from the Met Gala and there were a few dresses too good to miss. The Met Gala celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum's annual fashion exhibit. In order to celebrate this years exhibition, Punk: Chaos to Couture, the theme was appropriately Punk.

Weekend Re-Cap: Scottish Festival and Julie's Wedding!

We had a fun filled but busy weekend!

 

On Friday we joined our friends Becky and John at the Scottish Festival.

 

The boys are very friendly. And by friendly I mean creepy.

 



 

We stopped by the festival on Friday after work, so we missed most of the 'strength' type of activities except for the amature pole throwing contest. Yep, they threw poles. And that's a a strong girly girl out there.

We were not concerned though because there was plenty of entertainment. This guy told the best dirty jokes and had cute Steampunk gear to boot. Now I know what you're thinking- what does steampunk have to do with the Scottish people- we have no freakin idea either but it was great.

 



 

And of course there were the requisite swords and bows. Jason totally came home with those. By this point I was getting COLD and a little less willing to entertain his shennanigans so I just bought him whatever would make him stop going into booths.

 

On Saturday we attended the wedding of Julie and Issac. Julie works with Jason and had a lovely backyard wedding with a reception at the Modern. The bowtie came out to play.

We wish you guys many many happy years together.

 

On Sunday we saw the Fort Worth Opera's production of Daughter of the Regiment.

 

 

This makes our 3rd Opera and I have to say this has been my favorite so far. It was FUNNY and the director did such an amazing job keeping it lighthearted and contemporary. If you have a chance to see this show before it closes DO IT!

 

 

We did a few other projects around the house on Sunday but those are reserved for the big backyard reveal. How was your weekend?
