Today's Fresh Art Friday is the work of Kate MccGwire. MccGwire was born and works in the UK and creates fantastic sculpture pieces made almost entirely of feathers.

Although her first solo show was just in 2005, MccGwire is creating mature works. The pieces, sometimes huge masses of feathers that curve in organic and often sensual ways, are as stunning as they are off-putting. Take for instance Evacuate (2010):

I still can't put my finger on what makes me uncomfortable about this image but I can say that it is arresting. In her artist statement, MccGwire says 'I gather, collect, re-use, layer, peel, burn, reveal, locate, question, duplicate, play and photograph." Perfection.

I always find it immensely interesting to hear an artist talk about their processes and inspiration and was so excited to find this video from Crane.tv:
Wanna keep up with Ms. MccGwire? You're in luck because she's on twitter! Happen to be in German? Check out her exhibit at the me Collectors Room. Enjoy!
