Red River Review

Last month, we took an awesome 'family' vacation out to the Red River Ski Area. Neither the hubs or I had skiied in many years, so it was a really fun adventure to share together.

13 of our closest friends stayed in a rental from Red River Vacation Rentals and it could not have been more perfect. There was plenty of space, a working fireplace, a convenient fully stocked kitchen and of course, lots of red solo cups.

I think they learned their lesson about challenging this woman to come up with a drinking game.

Jason and I decided to snowboard on day 1 and ski on day 2 since he had never snowboarded and I had never really skiied. The good: the rental and lift tickets were reasonably priced and we found the equipment to be in great condition. I LOVED short skis (102cm for me) and really appreciated the knowledgable staff. The not so good: several of our group members took various lessons and none of us found our instructors to be too friendly. Maybe it's 'cause we're southern and expect just a little more of a howdy ya'll welcome. We all left skiing a little better but didn't get the warm and fuzzies.

Red River has 3 large lift systems in total. This view is from the Platinum lift which took you all the way to the top of the mountain. Um, I was kinda too scared to go up there, so this is actually Jake's picture. At it's highest, this lift is 80+ feet off of the ground. Woah!

The girls and I stayed a little lower altitude and had a great time skiing at our own pace, chatting on the lifts and sharing Ashley's magic camelback of blood fortifying liquid (also known as vodka/cranberry juice, a necessary evil in 7 degree temperatures). The hubs joined the more adventurous boys on the BLACKS! He didn't go down gracefully but he made it to the bottom!

I wouldn't have traded the trip with these crazy folks for the world. I love our little 'misfits' family and look forward to many more trips to come.

Much love,

DBC
